From Rock Bottom to Rock Solid: How the GFR Program Saved My Life

 My name is Ronson Griffin, and I want to share my story about how the Go Further Release (GFR) program, both before and after my incarceration, completely transformed my life. It might sound dramatic, but this program genuinely saved me. 

I was at the lowest point imaginable – mentally, physically, and spiritually. Ninety days before my release, I was a shell of a person. I had no self-worth, no address to parole to, and absolutely no hope. Suicidal thoughts plagued me. I, who was once considered headstrong, was utterly broken.

Then, Coach Lawrence Wynne walked into my life. He asked me a simple question: Did I need a life coach to prepare for my new beginning? It was a no-brainer. I accepted. Through Coach Wynne, I found a glimmer of hope in the darkness, and that was enough to cling to.

The GFR program then selected me to create a video. My initial reaction? “Naw, I’m good.” I didn’t sign up for this. But looking back, I realize it was divine intervention. I did the video, and it was fantastic. It was a definite confidence booster, a turning point.

The program didn’t stop there. They found me housing with one of the most admirable men I’ve ever met, a man willing to help me rebuild my life. This is where Pastor Lee Robbins of Vital Signs Ministries came in. His spiritual guidance and wisdom helped me focus on becoming the best version of myself through Christ. This support system was crucial when I finally got out.

After my release, I met Carl Jamal (C.J.) as a life coach. I knew this was my last chance. I listened to his words, and not only did I become a life coach myself, but I gained something even more valuable. C.J. is more than a coach; he’s a friend, a brother, and part of my family, just like Pastor Lee. They welcomed me with love and respect, teaching me how to become the best version of myself for me, my family, and my friends.

These people genuinely care. They don’t want to see you go back, and they have a system that works, staffed with people who truly care. If I had taken any other path, I wouldn’t be where I am today.

Fourteen months out of incarceration, and three months out of the program, I’m standing on my own, moving forward. I have my own vehicle, multiple businesses, a great job, a strong church community, and a fantastic support system. And most importantly, I love myself again.
